Variable weather throughout the past two weeks with warm sunshine on some days and down-right cold and wet on others.  Throughout it all, fishing has been pretty solid.  The extended forecast for the first two weeks of April calls for all-around warm temperatures with highs ranging from the mid-40s to almost 60 degrees.  Its classic early spring fly fishing in the Greater Yellowstone Region, and its gonna be good.

Snake River Angler Fly Fishing Report for March 16th, 2016

Snake River

Its mid-march and fishing is on pace with what we would expect on the Snake.  Air temperatures have been in the 50s on some days and water temps have been creeping into the low 40s for a couple of hours.  We have a bit more diversity of bugs on the water with chironomids, capnias, and some blue-winged olives all making an appearance.  So surface action is there most days during the afternoon.  Target current margins and shallow water at the head of inside turns.  Riffles and seams will also have action here and there.  Don’t expect dozens of […]

Snake River Angler Fly Fishing Report for March 2nd, 2016

Snake River

Warm temperatures all around at the moment on the Wyoming side of the Snake River.  Many days in the 40s and some approaching 50.  Fishing is comfortable, and pretty damn good most days as well.

Chironomids are everywhere and we are seeing more and more of the tiny black winter stones.  We are also starting to see a few blue-winged olives during the afternoon hours.  Targeting riffles is the best plan of action.  The middle piece of riffle pools, as well as riffle current margins, are producing in the morning.  After about 1pm, we start to see activity at […]
