Snake River Angler Fly Fishing Report for July 27th, 2015

Snake River

There is inconsistency from day to day and hour to hour on all reaches, but the Snake might be the place to fish at the moment. The hot period has been from about 11am to 3pm most days, but expect action on some reaches and some days either earlier or later. No heavy hatches anywhere except for the tailwater reach from Jackson Lake Dam down to Pacific Creek. PMDs are most prevalent, followed by caddis and little green stoneflies. Claassenia stoneflies are starting to emerge with a bit more gusto (again, quite early than the norm), but what […]

Snake River Angler Fly Fishing Report for July 20th, 2015

Snake River

Good fishing continues on the Snake and it is only getting better. The most consistent reaches throughout the day for numbers is on the low river from South Park down to Sheep Gulch while we are starting to find much better size on the upper reaches, particularly from Deadman’s Bar down to South Park. A surge in productivity and more action throughout the system throughout the day, although there is still a slight lull in the afternoon, but nothing to be too concerned about. Just fish tighter to banks, structure, riffle heads and current lines, and fish will come up.

Every reach of the Snake is fishing productively. Off-color water from recent rains have subsided fully. Mornings will fish well with larger attractor patterns and mayfly or caddis adult/emerger imitations. Target riffles, bankside troughs, seams, banks and […]

Snake River Angler Fly Fishing Report for July 6th, 2015

Snake River

The Snake continues rock on with excellent dry fly fishing on all reaches. The weird thing is that it is starting to fish just as well in the afternoon as it is in the morning despite increasing water temps. This is primarily happening on the upper reaches from Jackson Lake Dam down to Moose and on the lower reaches from South Park down to Sheep Gulch. The middle reaches from Moose down to South Park still have decent afternoon action, but not to the same degree as above and below.

Hatches are diminishing but you will still find PMDs, […]
